CTS Participates in Forrester Research Study

Atlanta, GA – October 21, 2011

Computer Technology Solutions, Inc. (CTS), a leader in world-class technology consulting services, participates in Forrester Research study to provide input on SharePoint adoption and user experience.

During the summer, CTS consultants were included in the over 500 IT professionals surveyed by Forrester Research to share experiences related to migrating Microsoft’s SharePoint Server product from the 2007 to the 2010 version. Forrester released the survey results last month in two separate white papers. One paper focused on the explosive adoption of SharePoint as a content management and collaboration tool while the second paper explored SharePoint custom development as an increasingly strategic initiative.

“Having so much experience in SharePoint implementation, custom development, adoption, and migration, we were able to provide Forrester with excellent input for these particular research studies,” said Ron Jones, CTS Portals and Collaboration Center of Excellence Leader. “We appreciate the opportunity to share our SharePoint experience with the larger community through Forrester, a company that consistently provides forward-thinking advice to the global leaders in business and technology.” The research concludes that SharePoint is a valuable tool for controlling massive amounts of business content and plays a key role as a central content platform for enabling knowledge workers. Another key finding of the research is that many organizations made critical mistakes deploying previous SharePoint versions and these organizations use “lessons learned” from those past implementations as a guide when migrating to SharePoint 2010. CTS approaches new implementations as well as migrations employing those “lessons learned” noted in the Forrester studies by encouraging customers to really consider information architecture, taxonomy, and governance while gathering requirements.

Forrester also noted that strong SharePoint skills remain in short supply while demand for SharePoint professionals remains high, forcing most organizations to hire outside consultants, like CTS, for major SharePoint initiatives. Many organizations view SharePoint as a productive environment for developing business applications due to its out-of-the-box applications and rich set of developer services. However, since SharePoint is a shared environment by nature, it adds risks to the platform when custom applications are implemented. In spite of the risks, the research shows that most companies will ultimately move custom application development to a SharePoint platform, relying on outside consultants for the foreseeable future.
